About

Based in Brooklyn since 2017, Simone is a self taught Brazilian visual artist who has been connected to art since her childhood. She grew up in Ouro Preto, a small Brazilian city that has its culture strongly shaped by the legacy of enslaved ancestors, an aspect that serves the artist as a great source of inspiration, influencing her perspective.

From the age of 8 to 15, Simone was part of a community art program that provided her the space, time and tools to explore her creative curiosity. Despite having no formal artistic training, attending that program was crucial for her artistic growth, a journey that included studies on oil painting, dotillism and pattern design (a technique applied in all her creations).

Drawing inspiration from her Brazilian roots and the vibrant energy of Brooklyn, Simone's acrylic paintings reflect the cultural richness shaping her experiences as a Black woman, mother, and artist navigating new cultural landscapes. Through her art, she explores themes of identity, memory, and the intimate moments that define everyday life.
